Infanterie Sturmabzeichen
The 1st abzeichen in my collection, this
zinc example is a " Broken stem" variant by an unknown maker.
Unfortunatly the finish has gone making it hard to say if it was
originally a bronze finish or silver.
[Grades][Hide]
The silver grade
could be awarded to officers, NCO's and men of the rifle companies of
non-motorized infantry divisions and the Gebirgsjäger companies.
The bronze grade could be awarded to
members of the motorized infantry regiments, machine gun, artillery and
infantry anti-tank companies of infantry and Gebirgsjäger regiments.

Another zinc "Broken stem" variant with
some interesting features & great detail and silver finish
remaining.
[Features][Hide]
"Very well defined features on
the eagle head and the finish reminds me of the Brennlac found on some
later E. Muller and WH marked ISAs. Interesting too, are the grooved
out areas on the reverse, and, some hand sand finishing, not commonly
seen on the broken stem series".

A "Broken stem"
with uncommon "frosted'' finish, applied after actually
removing the "Broken stem" feature, as can be seen clearly on the
picture below.
[Finish & features]

"Very nice. The finish on that
one looks to be a nice quality Brennlac with a frosted type "schnee" or
snow (Rhodium plate?). Not all have this and also looks to be a
thicker, earlier example. I had one like that with a high quality
barrel
hinge, the "AR" mono and a "flat stock" catch."

A young Obergefreiter wearing the Infanterie Sturmabzeichen on his M43 tunic.
He was also awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, Woundbadge and Ostfront medal (the cord in the right pocket holds a whistle).
